Ciudadela Resort Guide

Ciudadela – located on the western coast of Menorca

Ciudadela is a resort popular with people who enjoy experiencing culture, history and old towns. People who enjoy shopping will also enjoy the resort as there is so much on offer. Couples and families will enjoy the resort and people will poor mobility will find the resort easy to deal with as it is flat in most areas. The transfer time from Menorca airport to Ciudadela is around 50 minutes, giving you plenty of time to view the scenery in other areas of Menorca. This also gives you time to get an understanding of the location of your resort as well as the location of your accommodation within the resort. The beach in Ciudadela is covered in fine, pale sand that leads down to the waters edge. The beach is safe for young children and it is relatively quiet. The accommodation in Ciudadela consists of both hotels and apartments.

Ciudadela – plenty of sightseeing to be done

There are plenty of areas for you to explore in Ciudadela. These include the historic centre with its 14th century cathedral, a history museum and even a convent. There is also a local gallery and a fiesta which takes place on 21st June and is said to be a very lively event. As well as this, there are a lot of excursions that you can go on. There are many boat trips available as well as walking and bird-watching trips. There are also other resorts that you can go and visit such as Fornells which is actually a fishing village and has a brilliant windsurfing centre. Playing golf at Son Parc also tends to be a popular activity.

Ciudadela – many restaurants along the harbour

Ciudadela is home to some brilliant restaurants that line the harbour. The main cuisine on offer is Spanish and there is also a lot of seafood. You will also find a lot of Minorcan food, Italian and British foods. Fast food is a favourite in some areas as well as a few cafés. The nightlife in Ciudadela is fairly tame with a few bars, some open until late, a cinema and the occasional disco. There are many good shops in Ciudadela offering jewellery, clothing, shoes, bags, souvenirs and other little crafts. There is also a daily market available. Public transport in the resort is very good with 6 buses a day taking you to and from Mahon. There is also a service taking you to other beaches and resorts.

Ciudadela – typically Mediterranean climate

Ciudadela is blessed with long, warm summers, clear blue skies and hours of sunshine. Winter in Ciudadela is still good as it remains fairly mild. Although there is rain in the winter, it is light and moderate. There are cool breezes that sweep across the resort maintaining temperatures and making it a lot cooler for you. Summer sees temperatures reaching 30°C with 11 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures have also been known to reach 35°C, especially during August. Very little rain falls between July and September making it a very popular summer destination. During the winter, you may only see 5 hours of sunshine and temperatures will drop to 14°C. This is between December and January, however in March, temperatures start to rise again, reaching 18°C. It is very rare that it will rain for a whole day in Ciudadela. When it does rain, it usually clears up very quickly.
