Formentera Resort Guide

Formentera - The Smallest & Most Southerly of the Balearic Islands

Formentera is a resort for those who go on holiday to laze about in the sun. It is the perfect place for a beach holiday. The resort is not always cheap to stay in, however it is very laid back, as well as being a very enjoyable place to stay. Transfers from Ibiza take between 1 and 2 hours. You fly into Ibiza and then have 30-minute ferry crossing from Ibiza Town. The good thing about this is that you can see many sights in Ibiza and Formentera. There are many beaches in Formentera, however the best known ones are Illetes and Levante. It obviously depends on the wind, but at any time, one will have rough seas and the other will have small. Both beaches are very popular and are covered with fine, golden sands. There are many hostels and apartments in Formentera, a well as a holiday village and a few hotels.

Formentera – plenty of beach based activities

Sunbathing is probably the most common activity in Formentera, however there are others such as water sports. The water sports can be found at the beach and you have the opportunity to try windsurfing, surfing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing, sailing and fishing. Tennis is also a good sport as it cycling. Horse-riding is very popular as it is not something many people think of doing on holiday and it is a good way of getting around the resort. If you would like to try and excursion, then go and see the Xeroni caves, or take a coach trip around the island.

Formentera – plenty of places to eat

The island of Formentera mainly offers Spanish and European food. There is a lot of seafood available, as well as things like paella. The seafood restaurants are of a very good quality as are the other restaurants offering Spanish, British and Italian foods. The island also offers a wide range of cakes for you to try. The nightlife is mainly based in Es Pujols, where you will find lively music in the bars. Most of Formentera is very quiet with entertainment mainly coming from the hotels. There is a reliable bus service that tuns between all the towns in Formentera. Taxis are also available, however the best advice is to hire a car or cycle places.

Formentera – warm, dry summers with cooler winters

Formentera has an average summer temperature of 19°C in July and August. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of 4°C. During the winter months, Formentera sees some strong winds. There is a year round breeze which helps to maintain temperatures and keep the humidity levels down, however it is a lot stronger during the winter. There is hardly ever any rain in Formentera, especially in the summer months.
